The Regional Council's mission is to develop the economy, land and services for the benefit of its inhabitants. Its remit primarily covers education, training and learning, economic development and job creation, infrastructure and transport as well as  regional development.

Economic development

The Region's activities are designed to encourage innovation and increase competitiveness by 2020, through the development of a socially and ecologically responsible economy. To this end, the region supports local economic sectors (agriculture, tourism, forestry and wood), the innovative competitiveness hubs and regional talents who wish to export their goods. Alongside this, it offers training to jobseekers in order to meet recruitment needs, and encourages and supports apprenticeship and professionalisation contracts. Finally, it promotes the social and solidarity economy sector – a genuine lever for economic development and innovation.

Territorial development

The Region is investing in a number of territorial development projects and facilities in order to make the area more attractive. These will exploit both the dynamism of the local economy and its ideal geographical situation to open up to Europe and the world. But the thread running throughout these policies is sustainable development. Environmental excellence and quality of life are dependent on successful energy transition. The Region is implementing a number of innovative strategies to meet this challenge, particularly by encouraging good energy performance in private and public buildings. These challenges are considerable: fighting against climate change and fuel poverty, cutting public spending and injecting energy into the building sector.

Services for inhabitants

From education, mobility and culture to sport, youth and the life of its associations, the Region is developing services for its inhabitants to enhance the quality of individual and collective life.
Lifelong learning and training are priorities. From the moment they enter lower secondary school, until retirement age, the region's inhabitants can access a range of appropriate training solutions. The Region also manages the facilities and buildings of its schools. A further priority is the facilitation of local mobility, and the improvement of links to major neighbouring cities. 25% of the Region's budget is devoted to transport: a network of regional express trains, the Rhine-Rhône high-speed link, etc.
